The French band Les Rois de la Suède (The Kings of Sweden) recently released a new song called “Le P’tit Gros de Tokio Hotel”, which translates to “The little fat guy in Tokio Hotel”. They said the inspiration for the song came to them about a year ago when they saw posters advertising Tokio Hotel’s show in Paris in the subways. The first thing they noticed was the three tall, slim band members, then Gustav who seemed a little further in the background and noticeably larger than the rest.
A short part of an interview with the band is below, along with a YouTube video of the song and the translated lyrics. Before you read the lyrics, let me warn you: They seem a lot meaner in English than they do in French. Make sure to give your thoughts!
CL : In your lyrics, everyone gets their feather ruffled. There is the song “The little fattie of Tokio Hotel” …
Ivan: Actually, the song about Tokio Hotel is from me. It was about a year ago. I was in the subway and there were posters everywhere of Tokio Hotel announcing a concert in Paris. On the poster, three group members were slender and thin and then there was the drummer who probably put on a little weight during the tour. Nothing too serious, but compared to the other three, it was immediately sharply noticeable …
Mr. Octopus: You had a bunch of really cool guys and distanced thanks to photoshop there was a little fat guy.
Ivan: Actually, it was a song of compassion. We thought what a horrible life he must live now after having all this life of debauchery, and it all stopped for him. Plus, he is called Gustav so it must not be easy for him … Well, this song is primarily a more global reasoning about the consideration of artists by their fans in general.
