From Devilish to Tokio Hotel.
The band was formed in 2001 in their native Germany. The Kaulitz twins, supported by their stepfather, ventured into music, and later joined by Georg and Gustav. In the beginning they were known as Devilish, but in 2003 they signed their first contract with an international record company and they changed their name to Tokio Hotel.
However, it was not until 2005 that they edited their first album, when they changed record companies. They launched Schrei, with which they earned the first places in Germany's charts and other neighboring countries. Next were Zimmer 483, Scream (their first English album, a collection of their greatest hits) and Humanoid, launched worldwide this past year.
German Phenomenon.
What Tokio Hotel does is navigate between pop rock, teen pop, and the new genre emo rock. Perhaps this last style is one with which they've earned the most fans, since the 'emo culture' grows more with time among teens worldwide.
For many, this band's success on a global level is one of the most important that Germany has experienced in the past 20 years.
But the success of this musical phenomenon perhaps has many explanations. Some say that their song lyrics offer soft messages, not tainted with violence or rejection. Others, that Bill's look: androgynous and provocative, causes madness among young audiences that look for a certain acceptance. To that, one must add that this peculiar singer awakens a lot of sympathy among his fans all over the world.
From Another Planet.
The tour that brings Tokio Hotel is spectacular when speaking of stage set up. With a whole futuristic style, an impressive stage with hydraulic structures, floating bridges, fire balls, and latest generation lights, they promise to leave more than one [fan] with their jaws dropped.
Besides, the band will present their own compositions (in their debut as singer-songwriters) that are included in their last album Humanoid, that is already a hit.
Tokio Hotel's Attraction
Bill Kaulitz, singer of Tokio Hotel, was born September 1 of 1989. His look is the characteristic seal of the band and he's the band's most famous member.
Some critics have defined him as 'postmodern artwork' because he's a mix of various elements from different juvenile movements. His hair reminds us of the 80s, his clothes have influence of satanic fashion, his made up eyes look like Japanese animé characters. Also, androgynous-like. Bill was not long ago amidst criticism for his extreme thinness and led some to believe he was anorexic, (he's 1.90 m tall and weighs a bit over 50 kg), which the singer denied.
